US helps the Southern Philippines -2008 CRISIS
The US Military has poured $10 Million in infrastructure and development projects into the critical area of Sulu. This money went for 13 area centers, 14 road projects, 20 school buildings, 25 artesian wells and 8 water distribution centers across Sulu. In addition there have been many other humanitarian projects including Medical Missions and Training Seminars for military and police. Governor Tan (Sulu) signed an agreement to maintain all projects that were completed by the American Forces.
U.S.Ambassador Kristie Kenney Announced that the US is providing $2.5 milliom (Dollars) in assistance to those who have been displaced by the outbreak of violence in the War Zone in the Southern Philippines. 1,480 metric tons of US rice is being distributed by the UN World Food Program. Kenney said, "My thoughts are with those who have been displaced by fighting,people whose lives have been lost and disrupted."
